Belles of the Ball - Oscars 2009

Marisa Tomei in Atelier Versace's Origami dress
This was the most amazing dress of the evening.

Tilda Swinton in PreFall Lanvin
This woman simply cannot look bad. Her style is so individual, and she does it consistently in a bold and fearless way. I love her alabaster look - she reminds me of one of those faux statue street performers. Or what Oscar would like as a woman.

Shopping Carts/Bingo Cages/Animal Traps

These beauties are so evocative. I get shudders. The pairing with swirly silk pants is practically orgasmic.

I have never worked with this mesh-like interfacing before. Here's one of the front panels.
The inside, with facing.
Starting to come together...

Air/Sky/Sea/Infinity - Photography by Joel Meyerowitz

I have always loved the large format color photography of Joel Meyerowitz.

It's been stormy lately in Santa Monica. Makes for lovely pictures. Wish I had even a 2 1/4 camera. Maybe this year.

DIY - Chanel Jacket (stage 1)

I've been looking for a vintage Chanel jacket but they're very expensive. Or they come with a skirt which I could easily make, so...I bought a vintage Adolfo pattern and decided to make one. Before cutting into a pale pink Italian wool boucle, I made a draft in scrap fabric. Pattern will work, just need to lengthen sleeves by 1".

DIY - Funnel Neck Dress

I found this great Italian wool herringbone. The dress has a huge funnel neck and an open back metal zip. Worn with a D&G belt and Frye boots.

DIY - Abstract Print Dress

I found this great fabric in the garment district. Polyester but at $3/yd, couldn't pass it up. 2 pieces, boatneck, with pockets.
Worn with Donna Karan shoes.

DIY EXPLOSION...!!!

I'm going to be posting a lot of my DIY stuff over the next week. Stay Tuned!!!

DIY - Simple Silk Blouse

I made a contrast silk blouse to pair with anything. I took buttons off an old Zara blazer and used them as accents on the sleeve (1) and at the back of neck (2).
Worn with French Connection pants, Donna Karan shoes.

SEE: Polanski Unauthorized

Opens Feb. 13 at Laemmle Sunset 5

A surreal indie portrait of one of Hollywood’s most controversial figures that plays like a dream without a chronological order of events.

I also want to see this

Preen, Lovely Preen (RTW, Spring 2009)

Pix from Style.com

Preen is a British label designed by husband and wife team, Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi. I love the nude lacey shoes and the peek-a-boo details!

Antony and the Johnsons - The Crying Light

I had seen Antony sing in the brilliant documentary on Leonard Cohen, I'm Your Man. He was with his band, The Johnsons, and I remember thinking, 'WHO IS THAT?' He had this jittery gait, an angels voice, and the sound coming from him was raw, sweet, ethereal and achingly vulnerable.

His new album - The Crying Light - just debuted at #1 in Europe. Terri Gross recently interviewed him on Fresh Air.

You must listen and check out his music. It's arresting. He's a very unique soul.

More Meisel

I love the 'screen capture'-look of Meisel's new campaign.

Madonna for LV

I love the inky greens and browns of these pictures by Steven Meisel.
